  • For any possible healthcare resident with a confirmed COVID-19 case, all efforts will be made to provide a private room with private bathroom.
  • We have primary care employees dedicated to each resident. If we have multiple residents with COVID-19 or COVID-19 like symptoms, we attempt to ensure the same nurse and CNA is assigned to all COVID-19 patients.
  • All employees wear masks and those caring for COVID-19 patients wear full personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure their safety and to prevent the spread of the virus to others.
  • All healthcare resident rooms are disinfected twice daily and there are enhanced cleanings in all common areas within the health center.
  • All employees have been trained in proper PPE usage, as well as proper infection control measures.
  • Employee and contractor screenings continue to be required with daily health assessments and temperature screening. Healthcare employees are screened at the beginning of their shift, and again at the midpoint of their shift. If anyone fails the screening, they are NOT allowed to enter.

The health and safety of our residents and employees is our highest priority.

Update:  5/15/20

We remain committed to sharing information with you regarding the COVID-19 situation and all the precautionary measures enacted to prevent any spread of the virus at our community.

Under reporting requirements by the state health department and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), we are providing a weekly update regarding any information as it relates to the current Coronavirus situation.

It has been our commitment to share with all residents, family members and employees if there has been a positive COVID-19 case at our community. Since March of this year, when tracking started, our cumulative totals as of today, May 15, are as follows: two residents or employees have tested positive for COVID-19. This includes one residential living resident and one employee. Both individuals have fully recovered, and we currently have no confirmed, positive cases.

CMS guidelines also require reporting when three residents and/or employees exhibit respiratory symptoms within 72 hours of each other in a nursing home. As of today, we have 0 employees/ 0 residents that are experiencing respiratory symptoms in this setting.

We maintain close contact with both the county and state health departments regarding the latest information and updates, along with CMS and CDC, and per these communications, our updated infection control protocols include:

  • Individuals presenting COVID-19-like symptoms are immediately isolated and we are following CDC and local and state health department guidelines when caring for those with COVID-19.

The health and safety of our residents and employees is our highest priority.

The health and safety of our residents and employees is our highest priority and our commitment to you is to always keep you informed of what is happening at the community—especially as it relates to the current environment with Coronavirus. We learned that an employee within skilled nursing has been diagnosed positive with COVID-19 and is at home in self-isolation. The individual has not been at work since April 7. There are no other individuals with COVID-19-like symptoms at our community.

As a matter of protocol, we have also been in contact with local and state health authorities and will be working closely with them regarding additional guidance on infection control protocols, in addition to those we already have in place.

In following our current guidelines and protocols, all employees coming to work each day are screened with health assessment questions and a temperature screening. If an employee, visitor or contractor fails in any area of the screening, they will NOT be allowed to enter. To be extra vigilant in maintaining the health and safety of our community, nursing staff are screened again at the midpoint of their shift; residents of Pilgrim Manor are having their temperatures checked every shift, or three times a day.

We continue to monitor all residents and employees who may exhibit any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and, if necessary, ask that they reach out to their personal physicians for medical advice.

Be assured we are following stringent infection control protocols. We have a community COVID-19 task force in place and we are in continuous contact with our Central Office COVID-19 task force that is providing us with additional information regarding guidelines, and cleaning and securing medical supplies.

Please pray for this individual and all who have been impacted by the coronavirus. We thank you for all of your patience, understanding, and support as we navigate our way through this.

Update:  3/23/2020

The health and safety of all Covenant Living of Cromwell residents and employees is our top priority as we navigate the current Coronavirus situation in our nation and at the local level.

We learned late last evening (March 22) that an individual at our community has tested positive and diagnosed with COVID-19. The individual is from residential living and was initially hospitalized for a separate health matter and tested during the hospital stay. This individual has been released and is now in self-isolation in his home.

The individual and their family are in our thoughts and prayers for a full recovery. This is the first confirmed case at Covenant Living of Cromwell. As a result, the case has been reported to local and state health departments and we are working very closely with them.

Covenant Living of Cromwell is following rigorous safety and infection-control protocols as outlined by local, state and federal health authorities and all remain in place to help in preventing any spread of the virus to our residents and employees. This includes visitor restrictions and screening protocols for employees, visitors and contractors who come to our campus.

Dan Stegbauer

Executive Director

Update:  3/11/2020

As mandated by the Connecticut Department of Public Health, in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are not allowing non-essential visitors at Pineview (Covenant Living of Cromwell Assisted Living) at this time, except in cases of hospice and end of life care. Should you have any questions related to this directive or regarding the health status of a loved one, please call (860) 635-2690.

Thank you for your cooperation. Our residents depend on you to protect them from illness.

Update: 3/10/2020

Covenant Living Communities and Services continues to stay on top of the latest regarding the situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) across the nation and in our local communities. To date, none of our communities have been directly impacted.

Due to concerns regarding the spread of coronavirus and in order to maintain a healthy community, we respectfully discourage all non-essential visits to our community. This request is for all individuals—including family members—as a preventive measure and precautionary step to protect our residents and staff until further notice.

In addition, in response to a directive from the Connecticut Department of Public Health we are no longer able to allow visitors in Pilgrim Manor skilled nursing as a way to prevent any potential spread of communicable diseases such as the coronavirus. The mandate is statewide for any skilled nursing facility. The only exception to this mandate is if a resident is in the “end-of-life” stage and then a visitor would be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Covenant Living is already following strict protocols and guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and local and state health departments. Our emergency response plans include everything from infectious control protocols, ensuring our health care employees providing care have adequate supplies to contingencies regarding dining services and activities, if necessary. In addition, we are reinforcing regular and thorough hand washing as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and telling any employee who is sick to stay home.

It is important we all remain vigilant and pay close attention to our own health and places we visit, in particular if any resident, employee or visitor has recently returned from travel overseas or has any signs of illness.

We pray for those impacted by the coronavirus in our country and for the safety of our residents, employees and their families. Together with your vigilance, along with planning and preparedness, we can maintain a safe and health community in which we live and work.

The safety of our residents, employees and visitors is a top priority and it is important that we remain vigilant in protecting our residents and staff to maintain a healthy community.

Update: 3/4/2020

The safety of our residents, employees and visitors is a top priority and it is important that we remain vigilant in protecting our residents and staff to maintain a healthy community.

Covenant Living Communities and Services is paying extremely close attention to the coronavirus situation in our country and on the local level at each of our communities. We have assembled a task force to monitor this situation, remain educated on the latest information from health officials, and implement any plans we have in place that may become necessary to ensure the health and safety of all of our residents, employees, family members and visitors. Our Central Office has a readiness plan for any potential COVID-19 outbreaks, in addition to our already established emergency response plans.

Our emergency response plans are developed following strict guidelines as recommended by local, state and national health officials. Those plans include everything from infectious control protocols, ensuring our health care employees providing care have adequate supplies to contingencies regarding dining services and activities, if necessary. In addition, we are reinforcing regular hand washing as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and telling any employee who is sick to stay home.

It is important we all remain vigilant and pay close attention to our own health and places we visit, in particular if any resident, employee or visitor has recently returned from travel overseas.

We pray the Coronavirus situation across the world and here at home is short-lived and that the residents, employees, and their families of Covenant Living remain untouched. Together with your vigilance, along with our planning and preparedness, it will guide us to maintain a safe and healthy community in which we live and work.
